The day we told the world about you.

September 23, 2016.

We had made it out of our first trimester and thought that it was safe to tell people now. For weeks, we had tried to think of the perfect way to announce our newest journey to the world and we had finally found it. We were going to incorporate a piece of each of us… Marcus’ Firefighter helmet, my stethoscope, Maggie’s (our fur baby) collar, and a pacifier.

We had kept our pregnancy pretty quiet. Only our closest friends and family knew, and that circle was pretty small. We had decided to keep it that way because I had a little bleeding in my first trimester… It was terrifying, but we were always reassured that everything was ok with countless ultrasounds and doctor’s visits.

So came the day… We took the perfect picture and finally mustered up enough courage to post and allow the world into our new life.

Firefighter. Nurse. And now… Mommy and Daddy!

We were ecstatic… Our little secret was finally out.

Some didn’t understand the need for our privacy during those first twelve weeks. But there was no way anyone was going to take away from this moment. They didn’t know the fear we had experienced. They didn’t really know our story… And we weren’t about to tell them. Social media is a world where you tell others of your happy, perfect life… The dark, scary and painful moments you keep to yourself… But not now. Not anymore. I am now trying to find peace by soaking in every single moment of life, no matter how joyous or painful. Life is beautiful, but it is sometimes brutal. Brutiful as Glennon Doyle Melton says.
